SWIMMING POOLS

To ensure the lives and safety of Pendleton residents, families and friends, we are conducting inspections of pools in the Town. A needless amount of accidents occur because of neglect, a false sense of security, and being unaware of life, safety, and building regulations stated in the New York Fire Prevention and Building Code.

Please be advised that in the event That any insurance claim was made against your homeowner's insurance policy your coverage could be compromised by the fact your pool was not in compliance with national, state and local codes.

Below you will find some safety issues we are checking and informing Pendleton residents:

  1. All above ground pools (no matter the type of construction) more than 24” in height must be enclosed by a fence at least 48” high.
  2. Where the above ground pool is used as the barrier (48'high walls) the ladder or steps must be capable of being secured, locked, or removed to prevent access when the pool is not in use or supervised. Please note 48” inflatable pools do not meet barrier requirements.
  3. All electrical connections must be GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protected and,
  4. There are specific requirements for the style and type of fences and gates.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the building department.

NOTE: A permit is required if pool is capable of containing more than 24” of water. Contractors installing pools are required to be licensed in the Town of Pendleton.
